FAQ

  • Do I have to transmit my live location over the mesh network?
No, you can enable or disable location sharing within the meshtastic app.
  • What is a mesh network?
A MESH CONNECTS FRIENDS BY CREATING AN AD HOC LOCAL NETWORK. EACH PERSON IN THE MESH CARRIES A NODE. WHEN ONE PERSON SENDS A MESSAGE, ALL THE NODES PASS THE DATA ALONG. SO LONG AS EACH NODE HAS LINE-OF-SIGHT TO ANOTHER NODE, EVERYONE RECEIVES THE TRANSMISSION. THE TRANSMISSION CAN BE PRIVATE TO ONE PERSON, OR SENT TO EVERYONE IN YOUR GROUP.
  • Why no screen?
When we first started explore Meshtastic nodes, we thought we needed screens. However, realizing that the most useful thing the screen shows is battery percentage and possibly GPS coordinates, both of which can be easily viewed in the Meshtastic app, we feel screens are almost entirely unnecessary. Screens introduce another layer of design complexity, increase changes of water and dust ingress, and draw down the battery more quickly.
  • Why do Nano and NanoX not include GPS?
The main aim of Nano and NanoX are to offer the smallest node we know of that offers 2+days of battery life. GPS takes the battery life down to about 10hours in our testing. And even if GPS is disabled in the app, it still draws down the battery more quickly through parasitic losses. Additionally nearly all nodes will be paired via bluetooth with a phone. The Meshtastic app creators were cleaver enough to include an option to send the phone's GPS over the mesh. Thus, having a GPS on both the node and phone is generally redundant. Other Adventure Mesh nodes will have an option for onboard GPS, but Nano and NanoX are focused on small size with good battery life.
  • How do I enable or disable live location sharing?
Within the meshtastic app there are two places you can enable and disable location sharing. One is within the node settings, and the other is under the "App Settings." You can also change the rate at which the node searches for a GPS location, and how frequently and under what circumstances the node will transmit the GPS location. A node without on-board GPS is able to transmit the GPS location of the paired phone over the mesh. This means that even if the node you have does not have GPS, you can still transmit your live location over the mesh using your phone's location. Doing so save a lot of battery on the node.
  • How do I add a new question & answer?
To add a new FAQ follow these steps: 1. Manage FAQs from your site dashboard or in the Editor 2. Add a new question & answer 3. Assign your FAQ to a category 4. Save and publish. You can always come back and edit your FAQs.
  • How do I edit or remove the 'Frequently Asked Questions' title?
You can edit the title from the FAQ 'Settings' tab in the Editor. To remove the title from your mobile app go to the 'Site & App' tab in your Owner's app and customize.
  • Can I insert an image, video, or GIF in my FAQ?
